Crowd Sourcing Literature Review in SUNFLOWER
نویسنده
چکیده
1. ABSTRACT OF THE INVITED TALK Reviewing literature is painful albeit intellectually rewarding. I will describe SUNFLOWER, a system we developed in collaboration with Bloomsbury, a publisher of scientific material , member of Qatar Foundation. SUNFLOWER combines the power of search and collaborative editing to review and summarize a large number of articles around a topic. It works in three steps. The first step performs a composite retrieval of related articles where k bundles of complementary articles are built using article metadata such as authors and citations. The second step associates a summary to each bundle by extracting key phrases from their constituent articles. The last step involves humans that collaboratively edit extracted summaries into a coherent literature review on the topic. We report our experiments on scientific articles from qscience.com (QCRI) where she leads the Social Computing group. She is also DR1 CNRS at LIG in France. Her interests are at the intersection of large-scale data management and analytics. She works on developing scalable algorithms for organizing, mining and managing large volumes of social breadcrumbs left by millions of users online. One of the key projects is a collaboration with Al Jazeera and MIT to help news consumers and journalists organize and understand user-generated input in the form of comments on articles, tweets, Facebook likes and shares. Sihem has over 80 publications in major Web data management and social conferences. Prior to her current position, she worked as Senior Scientist at Yahoo! Research for 5 years on revisiting relevance models and top-k processing algorithms on datasets from Delicious, Yahoo! Personals and Flickr. Before that, she spent 7 years at AT&T Labs in NJ, working on XML query optimization and XML full-text search. Sihem is editor of the W3C XML full-text standard. She is a member of the VLDB Endowment and the ACM SIGMOD executive committee.

Crowd Sourcing Challenges Assessment Index for Disaster Management
Emergency agencies (EA) rely on inter-agency approaches to information management during disasters. EA have shown a significant interest in the use of cloud-based social media such as Twitter and Facebook for crowd-sourcing and distribution of disaster information. While the intentions are clear, the question of what are its major challenges are not. EA have a need to recognise the challenges i...
متن کاملUsing Expertise for Crowd-Sourcing
In this paper, we examine whether the use of expertise ratings can help crowd-sourcing systems. We show, using simulations, that a crowd-sourcing system based in social navigation works better when users’ expertise levels are taken into account.
متن کاملDesign Uncertainty in Crowd-Sourcing Systems
Crowd-sourcing social computing systems represent a new material for HCI designers. Crowd sourcing has been successfully applied to many areas, but these systems are difficult to reliably design and prototype. One source of uncertainty during design is the behavior of the crowd at different levels of scale. A second source of uncertainty during design is the crowd’s response to differing incent...
متن کاملPutting Ubiquitous Crowd - Sourcing into Context 18 - 09 - 2012 Afra Mashhadi Giovanni Quattrone
Ubiquitous crowd-sourcing has become a popular mechanism to harvest knowledge from the masses. OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a successful example of ubiquitous crowd-sourcing, where citizens volunteer geographic information in order to build and maintain an accurate map of the changing world. Research has shown that OSM information is accurate, by comparing it with centrally maintained spatial informa...

This essay, exploring the peer-to-peer collaborative atmosphere penetrating Wikivism, crowd-sourcing and open-source movement, identifies a new paradigm of public information as evolution toward Wiki-government. Citizen participants can collectively create public information via various platforms enabled by Web 2.0 technologies. Under the new participatory paradigm that a large number of indivi...
